Amulet Market, Bangkok - pmums choice.
January 8th, 2010
Travelling alone may get lonely, but selfishness is a hard habit to break. When I was in Malaysia recently I felt immediately comfortable with making my own decisions regarding where to go, where, when and what to eat and when it was time to leave. But here in Bangkok I was travelling with someone who had completely different interests to me, so I just went with the flow. I travel for food, but eating is ho-hum for mum. So we compromised, we did a little site-seeing interspersed with food.

Visiting the amulet market was high on her list. So we visited and I enjoyed it too. Beautiful scenes; an intent monk squinting into a loupe examining an amulet, passers-by dropping coins into begging tins, table after table of talismans that I don’t understand.

And there was food, thai iced coffee and a boatride followed by a swim and falling asleep by the pool (only to be woken by the thump of my book hitting the deck). Hello holiday.
