Ho Chi Minh City Propaganda

propaganda - pollution

The propaganda posters and billboards in Vietnam are amazing. In the first part of my trip I posted some photos of the posters we came across in Hanoi, but those in Ho Chi Minh City were so eye-catching I thought the deserved their own post. I love how some are soviet style blocky, while others are modernised. I love the use of visual cues and great graphic design to tell a story, so that the idea gets through, even to blockheaded westerners with no Vietnamese.

This one may be an advertisement, but it is sponsored by a government organisation that tries to make roads safer.

This is the last post about Malacca, I promise. Just some beautiful scenes, and some amazing nonya laksa and cendol at Donald and Lily’s Corner (read my post about it here on pikeletandpie.com)

More Malacca

chickenriceball

To be honest, I don’t really have much left to say about Malacca. I saw some beautiful things, took a a lot of pictures of those things, and ate some chicken rice balls.

Though, I do wish that I had eaten more.

This is what a heatwave looks like.

But the weekend wasn’t as hot as expected.

And now it is raining, chilly and Felix has a Corneal Ulcer, scary. There won’t be much sleep tonight.

Wandering Malacca.

building

Being a Thursday, Malacca is quiet. Shops and restaurants closed down against the heat of the day. So we go wandering, choosing out path by the direction most shaded.

bananas

This town sure does have some sights, but the hot, dry wind ever-present around Chinese New Year makes seeing them uncomfortable. Instead we dart here and there, seeking shelter in airconditioned shopping centres, or under the multitude of fans in high ceilinged open hawker centres.

emptyhawker

Everyone may have returned home for Chinese New Year reunion dinners, or maybe Malacca is always this deserted during the week.

shotgun

We venture past the tourist zones, away from the prescribed sights and see real life, Malaccan style. That is, until the heat sends us scurrying under cover to soak up some subzero air.
